Burgeoning

my idea for this triptych was to make something that told a story and made you think. I believe I successfully created a triptych; my 3 photos work together to create something that wouldn't work with only 2 of my photos. I used the elements of shape, value, lines, and texture to add interest and unify my photos. For my principles I used emphasis and contrast to control how the viewer sees my triptych, leading them with the darks and the lights. I used the leading lines filling the frame for my rules of photography.

Curious Christmas

My second triptych was inspired by the holiday season. I wanted to capture curiosity felt by a child at Christmas. I believe I successfully created a triptych because my photos work better together than individually. I used shape for my element of art, I made all my photos have circles which makes it easier to look at. I used emphasis as my principal of design to make a clear focal point and to make is pop. For my rules of photography I used perspective in all my photos to add interest and lead the viewer from middle, top then bottom in my photos.

Game day

for this triptych I wanted to do something with hockey gear and the red pop of colour. I believe I successfully created a triptych because my photos work together to create something that wouldn't be there without all three photos. I used colour as my element of art to unify my photos and make my triptych more interesting. I used emphasis as my element of art to draw the viewer into my photos rather that looking at a flat image. for my rules of photography I used filling the frame and dominance to add focus to certain areas like the skate blade and helmet logo.

  1. For my first triptych I turned the saturation all the way down and adjusted contrast and highlights to make my photos match and less choppy. For my second photo I was able to leave the photos raw because the lighting and colours worked well and did not impact the quality of my triptych. For my last triptych I; increased the red colour, white, contrast and highlights on the gloves; increased the highlights, contrast and white and black points on the skates; then I increased the contrast and red colour for the helmet. These adjustments unified my photos and made them more interesting.

  2. I always feel there is room for improvement in my photography skills, but for this project I feel satisfied with my editing. 1 strength would be I have a basic understanding in how the editing settings work and how to make my photos look how I want. 1 weakness would be I take quite some time editing because I want my photos to be perfect but this also makes the projects take longer.

  3. If I could redo this project I would have spent less time worrying about the order of my second triptychs photos and taken some time to edit them.

  4. I feel I have improved on my photo editing and my photographers eye. I notice my ability to see something and get an interesting photo that's not flat have gotten better.

About me

Hello, my name is Calia; a high school student in British Columbia with a love for photography.

I love being able to capture a story, memory, or emotion; not just a photo.

Being a bored teen in the summer who wanted learn something new is what started my journey

in photography. At least once i week I would ask my mom to use her camara. I would always be

met with a, "not right now," or "when we have time," eventually my mom gave up (thanks to me

constantly asking her) and I finely had her camara. Since then my love and skills continue to grow.

"Curiosity is essential for progress. Only when we look to worlds beyond our own can we really

know if there's room for improvement." -Simon Sinek.

My blog is where I will put my projects, trips, sports games, or recent work.

I love taking photos of groups of friends or family and capturing raw emotions and memories that tell a story. Sports photography is also a passion, from action shots and capturing the other side of sports that show the real reason we play, I love it all.

I have many hobbies but at heart I am a lacrosse player. I think that's part of the reason why I love sports photography, because some people only see one side if they have never played.
